Blossom Valley Parson Russell Terriers, formerly located in east county San Diego, California, in a community called Blossom Valley (east of El Cajon and west of Alpine) is now located in Aguanga, California (east of Temecula, California and Interstate 15.

I try to minimize genetic health defects in my puppies by doing as much genetic/health testing that is financially possible. Breeders who tell you that they have no genetic/health defects in their lines are either lying or ignorant. Ask them what tests they have done and if they submit the results to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (http://offa.org). If they do no testing or tell you that they do not need to do any testing because they have no problems, RUN from them. Look up their kennel name on the OFA website to see if they test.

The following is a list of some of the most prevalent problems with our breed:

· Hereditary Ataxia (Cerebellar Ataxia=early onset; Spinocerebellar Ataxia=late onset)

· Congenital Deafness

· Eye Problems, such as juvenile cataracts

· Patellar Luxation

· Legg-Calve-Perthes

· Primary Lens Luxation

For my dogs, the results of their testing is shown on each dog's individual web page.

For example, Dr. George Strain has reported that 13% of this breed are deaf in one or both ears. I have tested every puppy I have bred, and my percentage if less than 4%!

I guarantee my puppies against known genetic defects in this breed listed above until the puppy is 12 months old. If the buyer gets a CERF test and patellae certified against luxation at 12 months, I extend the guarantee to 2 years of age. If the buyer gets a hip x-ray and sends it to OFA for a Legg-Calve-Perthe clearance, I extend the guarantee to 3 years of age.

Not many breeders give a guarantee, and some of those that do, do not make good if you have a problem. Beware of those who give no guarantee!
